DON'T CALL US SUGARLUMPS

THEY'RE young, rich and beautiful - but the Sugababes admit it really upset them when they were branded SUGALUMPS.

A British gossip magazine came up with the term when Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Heidi Range were snapped relaxing on the beach during their summer holidays.

And although they are three of music's most desirable women, the group said that jibe really hurt them.

Heidi, who is a perfect size 10, said: "Our weight did become an issue for us after that holiday.

"They showed photos of us on holiday and called us Sugalumps. That really bothered me at the time."

Keisha added: "Weight should be a personal thing.

"I do watch what I eat and am conscious of my figure but at the same time I do go and have KFCs and my boyfriend and I have devoured extra-large pizzas with the bread and Hot Wings on the side as well.

"I do feel bad after, but that's because I know I'm probably going to break out in spots the next day.

"But people shouldn't lose weight to extreme levels. Don't starve yourself and get in an issue over it because of what people say."

The Sugababes' new single, Ugly, is out next Monday and the song offers the girls' frank views on people trying to undermine their confidence.

They say the reason they are so self-assured now is because they are all madly in love.

Heidi is going out with MTV presenter Dave Berry, Keisha is with a basketball player she refers to as Zayne, and Mutya's live-in partner and father of her daughter is simply known as Jay.

The girls refuse to dish the dirt on their men, but they will say being in loving relationships has made them more at ease with themselves.

This trio has been through a lot, yet Heidi, the eldest of the group, is still just 22.

Considering the ups and downs they've been through, from having a member leave to being dropped by their record label, it's no surprise they possess a maturity far beyond their years.

Another reason for this Gucci Bracelet is Mutya's baby Tahlia. The 20-year-old Londoner gave birth to her daughter in March, and has noticed the difference the new addition has made to her life.

She said: "I think it's made me calmer, to the point where I don't go out that much or I don't go out at all. And you do things you haven't done for a long time.

"Things are a bit different and a bit calmer, and your mind just really concentrates on one thing.

"So at the moment, obviously I concentrate on her but then I have work. They're the main things I need to think about. It does change you. I think it generally changes you as a person and makes you a better person."

The petite singer has already returned to her pre-pregnancy size eight figure.

She added: "I never really had a big belly when I was pregnant. I was still wearing size eight or 10. I don't know why, it just happened."

Keisha, 21, added: "We went clubbing when she was five months pregnant and we didn't tell anyone so no one really knew. She even got snapped by the paparazzi on my birthday party in a white dress and no one guessed."

Heidi and Keisha admit that while the new arrival has pulled at their heart strings they haven't become broody yet. Heidi said: "I love babies, and I can't wait to have my own babies, but I don't want them yet."

Keisha added: "It's not something I've thought about. It makes you want to push it back when you think about how much your figure will change." Taller In More Ways, their fourth album out now, sees the Babes with a more polished sound.

"I think we've definitely found ourselves with this album," explained Keisha.

"We've been trying to find out what we are for a long time - we're not rock, we're not R&B, we're not pop - and songs like Stronger and Hole In The Head are very different musically.

"We've never struggled with our sound, but we've always struggled with what genre our music is in.

"The thing that makes our music so recognisable is our voices singing together."

Keisha adds: "This album is mature. You can definitely hear Ulysse Nardin Replica that we've all grown vocally, and it's a team effort. We're not just puppets on a string or the product of somebody else's imagination. This album is us."

Before the release of this album, rumours were rife that the girls weren't getting along and a break-up was imminent.

But they are all quick to blast this idea. Keisha said: "You can't be successful if you don't get along, especially in girl bands.

"Most of the time when they break up, that's the reason why. I think once you find your common ground, you respect each other more.

"It's about the music. I don't care if people say the Sugababes are moody cows as long as they think we make great music."
